I lived and studied in Kowloon so I seldom came to the Island side. Perhaps I only took a Ding Ding 3 times in my life. I still remember the first time, it was with my best friend. We were hanging out in Causeway Bay and decided to jump on a tram, just to try.
I was surprised how cheap a tram ride was! Only HK$2, the price of 2 Yes! Cards (photo card of local celebrities, HK$1 each). Even today it’s still very cheap! And that small amount buys you a lot of joy.
I think that the tram is romantic and nostalgic. It is like buying an ice cream from a local corner store instead of 7-Eleven. The tram is so "Hong Kong", but you can only find it on the Island side, so I think you must ride a tram when you are on this side.
