I recently moved to North Point. I was looking for a place close to a local market and North Point was the best choice. I really love markets. We even studied the topic in architecture classes. It is a place of interactions and happenings. It is a rare kind of public space in Hong Kong and the best place for urban photography.
It took me months for a chance to photograph the market from a higher point on a sunny day. The red tram as a matching colour with the rest of the market, of course, did not show up without waiting. I would however tend to wait for more red, which is a colour that well represents the street elements in Hong Kong like the plastic lamps, canopies in markets, & taxis.
The tram gave me a new perspective to observe the market. In North Point, it passes right through the market. You are viewing the stalls from a higher angle, as an observer. You’re in the market but without being in it. It is a very intimate way of exploring.
